_description
I was invited by Levis Strauss and Silvertab to review research at MIT Media Lab in regards to apparel development. My business partner (previously a Levis Strauss Production Manager and IT Systems Manager) and myself, travelled to MIT Media Lab in Cambridge MA and met with the 'Things That Think' industrial consortium regarding the future of wearable technology.

We focused our discussions on research and developments relating to clothing design and manufacturing (ex. conductive threads, low voltage conduction systems, human powered systems), personal communication technologies (ex. micro cameras, paging, PDAs), and location based networking/services (ex. RFID, 802.11, Kiosks).

After our meetings and work sessions, we drafted a white paper on our research findings. How could we use the existing hard tech at MIT Media Lab in the Levis Strauss apparel design and production pipeline? Within the white paper we provided sketches of potential apparel designs for SilverTab, what technologies could be used immediately in production, and listed some user scenarios encompassing a wide variety of Gen-X and Gen-Y lifestyle activities.

The goal of this consulting project was to provide Levis Strauss and SilverTab with detailed information on how to evolve their clothing designs and production pipeline to meet the needs of the every changing trend based consumer. Its obvious in the current apparel design marketplace that many companies are trying to capture this market niche. Its exciting to have been a part of the first steps in the integration of ubiquitous computing and apparel design.
