Supermarket of the Future (via BBC News UK)

Nice bit of mobile phone technology and integration going on here… mobile barcodes, mobile barcode payments, mobile messaging, biometric finger print ID, RFID payments, etc… all at a grocery store?

A German supermarket is encouraging customers to scan and ring up their shopping using mobile phones, and check out without the help of a cashier.

It is one of the number of innovations at the new “Future Store” - as Steve Rosenberg discovered when he went along to do his weekly shopping.

This is easily the most dope pixel art based illustration thing you can scroll and zoom with EVER…

Think eBoy meets Google Maps meets Snap Shots and your scratching the surface… The graphic detail reminds me of the guy that does all those books on The Colosseum, Castles, Pyramids, etc… including reflections in the glass, driving directions from each building, and meta data like the name of the building on hover… oh lordy a mapping graphics to interaction designers wet dream…

EyeFi 2GB WiFi SD Memory Card

EyeFi
2GB Eye-Fi Card

This little Eye-Fi Card has been all over the gadget blogs over the past two weeks, but I had to post on it myself, as I just bought one. I had the luck of being introduced to the founders of the company via Thomas Hawk earlier in the year (while I was at Snap).

I cant wait to start using this in my Leica DLux3 to send some high rez snaps straight to my Flickr photo stream. Speaking of which I have two dream features I wanted to mention to the Flickr folks reading this blog…

Virtual Lightbox (via Posting from Email/Wifi/iPhone)
Allow me to post photos to a DRAFT area where I could sort of virtual lightbox my posts and approve the ones I wanted to be posted public and not…

Custom Groups from My Contacts
Allow me to create custom groups from within my contacts (ex people who I work with) and using privacy controls and tags post photos specifically to those people and no one else…

Thats it for now, as soon as I get the Eye-Fi I’ll post some pics and feedback on the whole unbox and user experience… Should be here by Friday if I am lucky…

Rendezvous, A film by Claude Lelouch

Rendezvous

Watch Rendezvous.

A little known car related racing film by famous Director of the seminal A Man and A Woman, Claude Lelouch… called Rendezvous. Produced and filmed in 1976 this is an insane and almost always nail biting right behind the wheel documentation of an experienced (but intentionally anonymous) Le Mans Gran Prix race car driver speeding Lelouch thru Paris in the early morning.

Lelouch is suppose to have strapped a film camera on the hood of a Ferrari race car (later proven to be Lelouch driving himself in a Mercedes) and used some surplus film stock from one of his earlier productions… This film was banned in Paris for many years… and only recently resurfaced on DVD and YouTube… In May of 2006 there was a documentary on the making of the film which cleared up any ambiguity…

Freitag F-Bag, Handy Man Purse

Freitag Mancipation F-Bag

The Freitag brothers and FREITAG Retour have just launched a new F-Bag, its called Mancipation(!?), basically a selection of S, M and L, Manpurse’s. One even in Airbag Material, I think I will buy that one right now… Its a perfect size for my PSP and iPod, w/ a handy opening for headphones! For one of those jetsetting trips to the EU, you can now ditch that big backpack, and carry around this nice smallish F-Bag with all your mobile technology. I have always wanted some article of clothing or accessory made out of Airbag material.

Also, make sure to download your very own F-AIRBAGGER car kit

design hotels Online Directory

If your the world traveler, and I know some of you are, this site is for you. You know those design books you see in the travel section of your local Virgin or Barnes/Noble called Hip Hotels? This is a web version similar to those books, with the reservation featured added in for good measure. Its got a database of some 200 hotels worldwide that are all focused on a ‘design experience’, not only is the hotel an architectural work of art, but its also a very luxurious and potentially expensive affair. Each hotel has a short piece of descriptive text to get you all excited to start saving for your next globetrotting vacation in style.

design hotels was established in 1993 to provide marketing and global representation services for design-led hotels worldwide. Subscribing to the view of design as a measure of living, not as a temporary trend, the company began to cooperate with forward-looking hoteliers and designers who share a similar vision.

An international zeitgeist brand was formed synonymous with distinctive architecture and interior design, balanced with functionality and service. Each hotel caters to the modern traveler, reflecting the individual and the environment - a revolution in hospitality and lifestyle.
