iPhone Calculator and BRAUN ET66 Similarities

iPhone BRAUN
Side-by-Side Comparison of iPhone Calculator and BRAUN ET66 (circa 1970s)

Yet another great design tidbit that makes me love my iPhone more and more every day. The GUI is a definitive tribute to Dieter Rams and Lubs Dietrich circa 1977 ET44 and ET66 calculators by Braun (ET stands for “electronic calculator” or “elektronischer Taschenrechner” in german, hence the “ET”, a design style that Braun traditonally followed in all of their naming).

Is this a tribute, or is it just confirmation that Apple basically makes all of their products look like Braun products? I’d love to see a series where the Apple logo is removed and replaced by a BRAUN

The picture looks more like an earlier ET33 from 1978 than the later ET77. I’ll go and find my ETs and check if i have minute.

Too bad that Brauns are not overpriced shite like Apples.

Dieter Rams is clearly a god at Apple and his design is the bible. If you look at the full portfolio of his products that date as far back as the 60s you will see the inspiration for everything Apple is doing now from the iPod to their whole design language. Forget about the “hip, young” designers in Cupertino. Vintage Dieter Rams is more to thank than Ive and friends.
