PS2 Katamari Damacy 2 Announced

Friday, January 28, 2005

OK, NOW I cant get juiced about a PlayStation2 game that will soon hit the shelves... Katamari Damacy 2.

If your not farmiliar with this game series, you should learn up! Basically your dad the ruler of the universe blows up all the stars in the cosmos by mistake, you now have to go to all these 3D world environments and collect objects to re-assemble the stars and constellations. Your character is a little guy rolling around an ultramagnetized ball that collects objects. Your goal for each rolling collection mission is to reach a certain diameter of measurement. The more objects you roll over the more cling to you, the bigger the items you can collect, and so on. The soundtrack and animation are some of the best I have seen. Its a cross between the Beatles Yellow Submarine movie and a Monty Python Animated sketch (Terry Gilliam eat your heart out!). Its the most fun I have had playing a game on the PS2.

You can also download a wide assortment of desktops and such here at the official Katamari Damacy engrish translated site KatamariDamacy.jp.

Buy: Katamari Damacy $18.95

PS2 Godzilla: Save the Earth

Can you tell I am a Godzilla fanatic? I have been meaning to post about Godzilla: Save the Earth now for some time. I referenced it in a previous post, but now I have had time to really write about it. I LOVE anything that has Godzilla in it, on it, around it, etc. I am loving this game. Yeah, the game play is kind of the same for all monsters (each has its special attacks, etc.) but I like the mayhem. Its like a 90's version of what Rampage was to the late 80's. Nowadays console game systems have better 3D rendering and digital stereo surround sound. I would buy this game for the Godzilla Monster characters compilation alone (I mean Jet Jaguar and Space Godzilla?!). Much monster movie fun in my opinion. Mata ne.

PS> I own a whole slew of imported toys from HK and Japan, including the Takara Godzilla - Real Action Heros rubber suit variant (circa 1990). This one is a 18" tall Rubber Suit with a 12" Action figure of a man inside (he is in shorts and a t-shirt no less) as if he was playing Godzilla!

Buy: Godzilla: Save the Earth $35.99

PixelArt Theme for Sony Ericsson Mobiles

On the same tip as the Pixelated Skyskrapers post, I found this great PixelArt Desktop Theme (a la K10K/eBOY) for the Sony Ericsson T616 on this digital art works site deviantArt. The T616 theme has a full selection of menus, backdrops, and pixel web font mods. I just downloaded and am loading it on my mobile as I type this.

Thursday, January 27, 2005

I was trawling some japanese design site and found this company PowerSupport (pronouced Pawasapo in Japanese!) that makes an aluminum wheeled platform for a Mac G5 called the G5 Skate. They also make another cool product that mimics the perforated hole pattern, its a top shelf called the G5 Rooftop. Its all hand crafted aluminum, made in Japan! I found out that they now have a US online shop to buy their products. I am gonna place my order SO soon!

Clip N Seal® New Fangled Bag Fastener

Wednesday, January 26, 2005

Well, I dont really know how I found out about this, but its been the biggest household invention for my family since the microwave oven. I have HATED those bag clips you get at the grocery store. They never work properly, they are weird shapes, they dont always close, especially if you have a big bulky bag of Chips or something (and of course the contents go stale in a day!).

The Clip N Seal invention is so simple and zen its ridiculous. I bought a whole slew of them, and then was so pleased with my home uses success, I emailed the founder/inventor and complimented him profusely. We actually know some of the same people in the 'design' cirlces and so have now become email buddies of sorts. Since I started this BLOG I thought, what a great place to share this awesome household invention!

The best part of all... The pricepoint!

Pixelated Skyscrapers I Love You

Monday, January 24, 2005

I have been following the K10k.net site for quite a few years now, and have come to love the PIXEL art and patterns they and eBoy have standardized on the web and elsewhere. I think I may have seen a link from their site to this Skyscrapers site. My wife was recently in Hong Kong and saw the completed Internation Finance Tower, the 5th tallest building in the world! She got some DV and photos, and its truely amazing. I think they base jumped off this building in the second Lara Croft Tomb Raider film.

DJ Tony Watson Presents Body Music

I have had the pleasure of listening to and hanging out with DJ Tony Watson. His cuts and taste in music are impeccable. He is the true audiophile when it comes to music and its appreciation. Not only does he know his craft intimately, but he always recommends great tracks to listen to both online and on CDs and Vinyl. I just got a very rare and super underground Brazilian beats compilation and was blown away by its unique sound.

Please do your best (if your in the LA area) to go check out a Tony Watson DJ audio experiencial session. Check the link to get more information on BODY MUSIC.
